What good can a casting director do for you as an actor?
A casting director’s role is to asses your suitability for a role.
Casting directors are hired by producers to ‘package a film’ which is industry speak for actually making happen with the ‘right’ cast.
In the UK since the the pandemic, there has been a proliferation of casting director workshops (and a proliferation of casting directors!).
Thousands of actors flock to hundreds of them in the UK on a weekly basis in the hope that they might be seen & discovered.
But, not many people have asked the questions that should be asked:
Why are casting directors doing this in the first place?
Shouldn’t they just do their own jobs instead of stepping into what is properly the acting coach’s job?
And yet, there are a limited number of reasons why an actor may want to attend some of them.
