Our Philosophy

At BADA, we believe acting is not about endless self-tape practice & critique – it’s about accessing the truth of who you are and using that truth to give life to characters who are complex, real, and deeply human.

Since 2015, our training has focused on developing emotionally intelligent, character-driven performers. At the core of our approach is the Beck Emotional Access Technique (BEAT™), a method created by our founder, Fay Beck – actor, director, coach and theorist – whose unique background fuses the intensity of Method-style drama training with the intellectual precision of her philosophy and psychology training.

Fay’s teaching roots lie in the Meisner Technique, studied intensively under Billy Milionis at The Actor’s Pulse in Sydney – Milionis himself a direct student of Sanford Meisner. While deeply influenced by Meisner’s principles of truthful behaviour and moment-to-moment responsiveness, Fay found herself asking deeper questions:

What are the mechanisms behind emotion? What defines character beyond behaviour? How can an actor access emotional truth—consistently, safely, and with depth?

Guided by these questions, and drawing from her academic training, Fay spent years developing a rigorous, integrated framework that helps actors not just perform but understand. Understand their own emotional terrain. Understand character not as a collection of traits, but as a dynamic structure shaped by experience, perception, and internal response to the external world.

In Fay’s view, character is emotion in motion.

Every role, every line, every choice—rooted in a layered, living emotional architecture. And it’s this architecture that BEAT™ enables actors to access, construct, and embody.

Our training isn’t about quick fixes or surface-level tricks. And it isn’t about perfecting your self-tape and casting skills.

It’s about transformation.

It’s about giving actors the tools to dig deep, to connect honestly, and to express powerfully – both on screen and on stage.

I don’t believe in talent. I believe in the actor’s curiosity and in their constant application of effort to satisfy it.
