Are Casting Director Workshops Misleading Actors?
Have you heard this one before:
“I know someone who got cast in a commercial/film/TV series from attending a Casting Director workshop”.
Actors often use this to justify spending money on weekly workshops with innumerable casting assistants. (It’s never really the casting directors themselves doing them, and if it is, you should be wondering why they need to resort to this new revenue stream: Not enough work? Too much competition perhaps? That aside, when actors cite the above as a reason of attending yet another workshop, they often neglect to ask themselves some crucial questions about this actually very rare occurence.
To be hopeful that you might be discovered in a casting workshop is one thing but to fall into the kind of blind optimism that has you attending casting director workshop over actual classes that you need and with a good coach, is something else entirely.
